Juni's First Litter

Here we are! After 2 missed attempts at breeding, we finally welcomed Juni’s first litter on February 22, 2024. She whelped easily, and had 9 puppies, 5 girls and 4 boys. As sometimes happens, we lost the youngest, smallest boy 2 days after they were born, despite working with him for those 2 days.

Juni has been an amazing mother, even though we were all pretty exhausted for the first 2 weeks. Of course, now at just about 2 weeks old, the real fun begins! The puppies eyes are opened, and it seems as though their ears may also be starting to open. They have started eliminating on their own as well, which is when we can start house training in the whelping box.

Moving forward, we will continue implementing Puppy Culture protocols with our litter. This includes early socialization, neurological stimulation, as well as husbandry and training experiences to help puppies get off to a great start.

We have begun introducing a novel “item” each day. This “item” can be a texture, smell or even experience. It is done early to help puppies develop confidence in approaching new and unusual experiences, while attempting to minimize fear in new situations.

I am excited to work with this new litter! Each puppy and each litter is unique, no 2 are exactly alike. I am eager to find out what challenges we will have, and what new things I will learn as well.
